Daniel 9:4-9

4 I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed:

“Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love
with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5we have sinned
and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned
away from your commands and laws. 6We have not listened to your servants
the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our
ancestors, and to all the people of the land.

7“Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame—the people
of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far,
in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness
to you. 8We and our kings, our princes and our ancestors are covered with shame,
Lord, because we have sinned against you. 9The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving,
even though we have rebelled against him;

Ecclesiastes 12:13

13Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.

Isaiah 30:1-3

Judah Warned against Egyptian Alliance
1“Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the LORD,
“Who execute a plan, but not Mine,
And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit,
In order to add sin to sin;

2Who proceed down to Egypt
Without consulting Me,
To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh
And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!

3“Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame
And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.

Jeremiah 2:17

17Have you not brought this on yourselves
by forsaking the Lord your God
when he led you in the way?

Jeremiah 3:21-22

21A cry is heard on the barren heights,
the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel,
because they have perverted their ways
and have forgotten the Lord their God.
22“Return, faithless people;
I will cure you of backsliding.”

Jeremiah 5:21-31

21‘Now hear this, O foolish and senseless people,
Who have eyes but do not see;
Who have ears but do not hear.
22‘Do you not fear Me?’ declares the LORD.
‘Do you not tremble in My presence?
For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea,
An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it.
Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.

23‘But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart;
They have turned aside and departed.

24‘They do not say in their heart,
“Let us now fear the LORD our God,
Who gives rain in its season,
Both the autumn rain and the spring rain,
Who keeps for us
The appointed weeks of the harvest.”

25‘Your iniquities have turned these away,
And your sins have withheld good from you.

26‘For wicked men are found among My people,
They watch like fowlers lying in wait;
They set a trap,
They catch men.

27‘Like a cage full of birds,
So their houses are full of deceit;
Therefore they have become great and rich.

28‘They are fat, they are sleek,
They also excel in deeds of wickedness;
They do not plead the cause,
The cause of the orphan, that they may prosper;
And they do not defend the rights of the poor.

29‘Shall I not punish these people?’ declares the LORD,
‘On a nation such as this
Shall I not avenge Myself?’

30“An appalling and horrible thing
Has happened in the land:

31The prophets prophesy falsely,
And the priests rule on their own authority;
And My people love it so!
But what will you do at the end of it?

Isaiah 65:1-2

A Rebellious People
1“I permitted Myself to be sought by those who did not ask for Me;
I permitted Myself to be found by those who did not seek Me.
I said, ‘Here am I, here am I,’
To a nation which did not call on My name.

2“I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people,
Who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts,

Galations 5:1-26

Freedom in Christ

1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

2Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves
be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised
that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4You who are trying
to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you
have fallen away from grace. 5For through the Spirit we eagerly
await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6For in Christ Jesus
neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing
that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

7You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying
the truth? 8That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
9“A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” 10I am confident in
the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into
confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. 11Brothers and
sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?
In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12As for those agitators,
I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

Life by the Spirit

13You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom
to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14For the entire
law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.
15If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is
contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not
to do whateverc you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition,
dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as
I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
